# How to install a new language

I have the .po files corresponding to the new language I want to add, however when I add them to the {bonita\_home}/platform/work/i18n the studio does not recognize the language.

Furthermore, the new locale appears when using an API call to show all current locales and there’s an option to switch to that language in the BPM Portal **HOWEVER** when passing through forms the messages are still in english even when having, on the url parameters, &locale=pt\_PT

And yes, pt\_PT is correct, it’s exactly how it shows up in the API call, so there are no problems when it comes to capitlization.  
What am I doing wrong here?

I’m not really familiar with the subject but did you check the documentation page about [adding a new language](http://documentation.bonitasoft.com/languages-1) ?

When you said “studio does not recognize the language” what do you mean exactly? Note that adding a new language is only supported in Bonita Portal.

What message are not translated? Can you share a screenshot?
